Campo dè Fiori. With its open air flower and vegetable market, along with the hustle and bustle of locals, Campo de' Fiori is easily the liveliest piazza in Rome. Its name derives from the field of flowers that it was in medieval times, rather than from the market, which only began in the 19th century. Walking through the amazingly fresh and delicious-looking produce in the market makes it easier to understand why food in Rome and Italy is better than anywhere else in the world. Every morning except Sunday you'll find a lively market in Campo dè Fiori. The square is full of stalls selling fruit & veg, meat, fish and household goods. Around the square are delicatessen and bread shops.
A pedestrian friendly area and popular meeting spot. Everything beautiful and interesting about Rome seems to culminate here. The Piazza di Campo de Fiori (the square of Campo dè Fiori) is particularly lively and even more so in the evenings: indeed, at night the square is full of people enjoying the restaurants & bars. Along with Trastevere and Piazza Navona this is one of my favourite areas of Rome.
The nightlife in Campo de Fiori is excellent plus most Rome tourist attractions, and the Tiber and Trastevere, are just a short stroll away. This is a great starting point for touring Rome.
